I would like to call this acapella shoegaze, but I'm not entirely sure it qualifies - in addition to listening in awe to the extremely low-key (dead-sounding) vocals, read the lyrics and think about how some people (Donald Trump) are very misguided in what they are trying to achieve (terrible things don't vote for Trump kids). Yeah basically this making a mockery of people who reminisce for the past.
lyrics
I was born at the wrong time, take me back
Castles, big dresses crowns, yeah I live for that
Milkshakes in the diner with the radio on
All of history’s good good times are gone}
Married off by the time I’ve hardly turned twelve
To a man I don’t even know very well
For the sake of my parents gaining livestock
The last goat they had, well it’s in the pot
I wanna live retro, all my kids getting polio
Well I bathed last year, I’ll never do it again
And I killed for this land so just tell me when
I wanna live retro, get lynched because I tried to vote
The priest says it’s a sin and I’m already cursed
And then I’ll be stoned in front of the church
Retro (x6)
I wanna live, wanna live, wanna live retro
I was born at the wrong time, take me back
Roaring twenties in the jazz clubs, talking smack
Peroxide blondes and a state of civil unrest
It’s not like that anymore, you know we missed the best
Times for girls, times for boys in the wartime
Hundreds of thousands of lives lost at their prime
The way we’d kill native people like animals
The way we’d kill animals like they weren’t lives at all
I wanna live retro, all my kids getting polio
Well I bathed last year, I’ll never do it again
And I killed for this land so just tell me when
I wanna live retro, get lynched because I tried to vote
The priest says it’s a sin and I’m already cursed
And then I’ll be stoned in front of the church
Retro (x6)
I wanna live, wanna live, wanna live retro
